Leela Berman is a 2023 graduate of Brown University where they studied history with a focus on race, medicine, and power. During college, they were committed to research, events coordination, and strategic support building justice on and off campus. The heart of this work was connecting students to ongoing legislative and political campaigns in Providence, RI. Supporting local grassroots organizing, especially around the criminal-legal system, underscored the essential role played by free and easily accessible legal information in health, racial, and economic justice movements. They are honored to learn from the MLRI team as the Legal Aid Websites Project Coordinator. Leela is happiest by the water and spends their free time writing, reading, and dreaming up big meals for people to eat in community.
